Oscar Guesses 2017

Personally I thought Arrival was far and away the best, but no one agrees with me. Which brings me to my latest gripe about the oscars, and that is that every year my voting for “my favorites” more and more gets influenced by what is trending. I have been posting my picks for oscar for 8 years now, and up until this year I have always picked my favorites in every category that wasn’t acting.

Yes, I hate to admit it, but I don’t think I have ever posted a favorite in any of the acting categories for as long as I have been doing this.

Not because I don’t have confidence in my ability to choose the “best” individual actor/actress of the year, but because so much of those votes are “bought” by the schmooze and influenced by the prevailing winds of the times.

This is the year that the trends of hollywood have started to seep into my predictions in some of the other categories, most notably Best Picture. Don’t get me wrong I loved La La Land and think it deserves the acclaim it is receiving.

It’s just not my fave.

Oscar Guesses 2016

This year’s “Boyhood” is Mad Max. Apparently, there has to be a movie that I hate but might win a bunch of awards. I really hope it doesn’t happen. The problem is it has a good chance to win many of the technical awards (I’m going with Star Wars), but that said without writing, actors, or director I don’t see it getting Best Picture. Having The Revenant win Best Picture without a the screenplay is also scary but I don’t think Spotlight had enough going for it. Also of note, Mark Ryland should win over Stallone but there’s a lot of sentiment going for Sly.

Screw you Mad Max. Screw You.

Oscar Guesses 2015

Here we are again! I really hope Boyhood gets snubbed and the gimmick didn’t actually fool everyone. I am REALLY hoping Patricia Arquette doesn’t win but I had to pick her just because that’s the way it is looking (maybe Emma Stone?). That said, I’m also going against the grain and picking neither Boyhood or Birdman for best picture.

Last minute change for best song, I don’t know what I was thinking.
