Oscar Guesses 2013

Well, I blogged at least a few times this past year, and so here’s to the hope of more this year.

I’ll update this post with winners once it’s over.

UPDATE: So, a great year for my oscar predictions, tying my best record with only 4 of the main awards missed.

Oscar Guesses 2012

Maybe this will be the year I start blogging again, but until then…

A below average year for film, I’d say. I’m on the fence about my tendency to put my second choices in parenthesis (these things that are not brackets). I have been doing it less and less, and this year I have to put The Artist in for any/all my second choices… not because I want to, but to point out I know that’s the favorite among the old white folks who pick the winners.

Best Picture – The Help no -> The Artist
Best Animated Feature – Puss in Boots no -> Rango (seriously? …wow, dissappointing)
Best Director – Martin Scorsese no -> The Artist
Best Actor – George Clooney no -> The Artist
Best Actress -> Toughest decision… I’ll say Meryl yes
Best Supporting Actor – Christopher Plummer yes
Best Supporting Actress – Octavia Spencer yes
Best Original Screenplay – Midnight in Paris yes
Best Adapted Screenplay – The Descendants yes
Best Original Score – The Artist yes
Best Original Song – The Muppets yes
Best Editing – The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yes
Best Cinematography – The Tree of Life no -> Hugo
Best Art Direction – Hugo yes
Best Costume Design – Anonymous no -> The Artist
Best Makeup – Harry Potter no -> The Iron Lady
Best Sound Mixing – Transformers no -> Hugo
Best Sound Editing – War Horse no -> Hugo
Best Visual Effects – Rise of the Planet of the Apes no -> Hugo

I’ll update this post with winners once it’s over.

Oscar Guesses 2011

Apparently, the only blogging I do is this post once a year…

I was going to put my second choices in (these things that are not brackets) but after looking at the list, my second choice is the nominee was always The Social Network or The King’s Speech (whichever I didn’t have as the winner) and when that’s not an option it will be Inception or True Grit.
Best Picture – The Social Network no -> The King’s Speech
Best Animated Feature – Toy Story 3 yes
Best Director – David Fincher no -> The King’s Speech
Best Actor – Colin Firth yes
Best Actress – Natalie Portman yes
Best Supporting Actor – Christian Bale yes
Best Supporting Actress – Hailey Steinfeld no -> Melissa Leo
Best Original Screenplay – King’s Speech yes
Best Adapted Screenplay – Social Network yes
Best Original Song – Toy Story 3 yes
Best Original Score – Trent Reznor yes
Best Editing – Social Network yes
Best Cinematography – Inception (True Grit) yes
Best Art Direction – Alice in Wonderland yes
Best Costume Design – King’s Speech no (Alice in Wonderland)
Best Makeup – The Wolfman yes
Best Sound Mixing – Inception yes
Best Sound Editing – Inception yes
Best Visual Effects – Inception yes

I’ll update this post with winners once it’s over.
